Overview

Spark Compass Airport Platform solution was deployed at San Diego International Airport and it was approved by FAA / US Department of Transportation / Homeland Security; sole source selected by the State of California. Over 350 BLE Secure proximity beacons were installed across terminals, buses, parking and curbs – both sides of security.

Indoor navigation solution launched with Apple that combined with an enterprise-level wearable watch from Samsung. This helped IT staff members to be more responsive by reducing calls and emails, while the closest staff member could be identified by their watch, as it related to the Apple indoor navigation. Global reach was made because over 8,400 airports were globally integrated into the Platform. Spark Compass Intelligent Communications Platform harnessed beacon technology to provide location tracking and bidirectional communication with watches worn by airport staff, integrated within SAN’s existing operational infrastructure and data solutions.

Spark Compass powered AwayYouGo mobile app and enhanced the traveler’s journey with everything from receiving directions en route to the airport to real-time gate information and changes. AwayYouGo app also sends alerts when bags are on the carousel at the destination airport, made possible through GoTag secure Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons that travelers attach to their luggage before setting out on their trip.

Purpose

Spark Compass Platform and other partners technology installed across the San Diego Airport (SAN) was controlled by a station operator and was used by and for concessions, shops and staff. Primary goals were to enhance Passengers Journey experiences, to improve Operations efficiency, and to create New Revenue streams

Technology Deployed

Technology Deployed Range of technology features and solutions have been deployed, such as Geofencing, Proximity Beacons, Smart Interactive Displays, Janitorial services. AR and Loyalty & Rewards campaigns, and many others. Passengers’ Wearables connections were enabled with Platform and Campaign delivering but also separate Airport wearables connections were activated for greater airport staff efficiency, security and reports.
